DEFINITION: With the radio operating normally, the rear speakers do not mute and the Rear Seat Audio (RSA) power indicator does not illuminate when the RSA power button is pressed.

Did you perform the Radio/Audio Diagnostic System Check?

  1. Turn the ignition to accessory.
  2. Turn the radio on and adjust the fade and balance controls to mid range.
  3. Press the power button on the Rear Seat Audio (RSA) control.

Do the Rear Speakers mute?

Did the volume increase greatly when the RSA power button was pressed?

Press any function on the Steering Wheel Controls (SWC).

Did the SWC function operate normally?

Using A DMM, test for RSA/SWC reference power voltage by backprobing the radio connector.

Is the voltage indicated within the specified range?

10-12 Volts

Test the RSA/SWC reference power circuit at the RSA for:

    • an open
    • high resistance
    • or poor connection

Is the loud volume present in the front speakers?

Can the radio volume be controlled normally when the fade control is at the full rear setting and the full front setting?

    • an open
    • high resistance
    • or poor connection

Test the radio rear seat audio control enable signal circuit between the radio and the RSA for:

    • an open
    • high resistance
    • short to ground
    • or poor connection

  1. Using a test light, backprobe the radio connector at the rear seat audio control enable signal circuit.
  2. Press the power button on the RSA control on and off.

Does the test light illuminate on one button press and go off on the next button press?

Test the radio rear seat audio control signal circuit between the radio and the RSA for:

    • an open
    • high resistance
    • short to ground
    • short to battery voltage
    • or poor connection

  1. Connect the radio harness connector and the RSA connector.
  2. Turn the ignition to accessory.
  3. Turn the radio on.
  4. Using a DMM backprobe the RSA connector at the radio rear seat audio control signal.
  5. Press the RSA power button on and of while observing the meter display.

Does the meter display a momentary voltage reading as the RSA power button is pressed?
