Steering Wheel Control Switches Replacement Pontiac

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 754646  Size: SH
  1. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering wheel controls wire harness from the retainers in the steering wheel.
  3. Remove the steering wheel control switch from the steering wheel by pushing on the back of the switch through the opening in the steering wheel.
  4. Disconnect the electrical connector.
  5. Remove the switch from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the steering wheel controls switch to the vehicle.
  2. Connect the electrical connector.
  3. Push the steering wheel controls switch into the steering wheel.
  4. Install the steering wheel controls wire harness to the retainers in the steering wheel.
  5. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.

Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 754668  Size: SH
  1. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
  2. Remove the retaining screws (1) from the back of the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
  3. As necessary, remove the horn switch ground wire connector from the grounding bracket to allow removal of the wire harness.
  4. Remove the wire harness connector from the retainer.
  5. Remove the switches and the harness from the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the switches and the harness to the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
  2. Install the wire harness connector to the retainer on the inflatable restraint steering wheel module.
  3. Route the steering wheel controls harness on the inflatable restraint steering wheel module and if necessary, re-connect the horn switch ground connector to the ground bracket.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the retaining screws (1).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the retaining screws to 2 N·m (18 lb in).

  7. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SIR.
