Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 37043 Park Brake Cable Release Tool

  1. Release the park brake.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  3. Object Number: 474301  Size: SH
  4. Loosen the park brake cable equalizer nut in order to remove the park brake left side cable from the park brake equalizer.

  5. Object Number: 474297  Size: SH
  6. Remove the park brake cable from the park brake cable connector.
  7. For domestic vehicles, perform the following steps.
  8. 5.1. Remove the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
    5.2. Remove the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes.
  9. Remove the park brake cable from the park brake actuator.

  10. Object Number: 177173  Size: SH
  11. Use the J 37043 in order to remove the park brake cable.
  12. • For domestic vehicles, remove the park brake cable from the backing plate.
    • For export vehicles, remove the park brake cable from the park brake cable bracket.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the park brake cable.
  2. • For domestic vehicles, install the park brake cable to the backing plate.
    • For export vehicles, install the park brake cable to the park brake cable bracket.
  3. Install the park brake cable to the park brake actuator.
  4. For domestic vehicles, perform the following steps.
  5. 3.1. Install the tire and wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
    3.2. Install the brake drum. Refer to Brake Drum Replacement in Drum Brakes.

  6. Install the park brake cable to the park brake cable connector.

  7. Object Number: 474301  Size: SH
  8. Install the park brake left side cable to the park brake equalizer.
  9. Adjust the park brake cable. Refer to Park Brake Cable Service/Adjustment .
  10. Lower the vehicle.
