Inspect the brake fluid level.

Is the brake fluid level OK?

Go to Step 3

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.
  2. Disconnect the park brake indicator switch.

Is the brake warning indicator still on?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Disconnect the brake fluid level indicator sensor.

Is the brake warning indicator still on?

Go to Step 6

Go to Step 7

Replace the park brake indicator switch. Refer to Parking Brake Indicator Switch Replacement in Park Brake.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 10

Test the signal circuit of the park brake indicator switch for a short to ground. For domestic vehicles, also test the signal circuit of the daytime running lamps control module (DRL) for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Replace the brake fluid level indicator sensor. Refer to Brake Fluid Level Indicator Switch Replacement in Hydraulic Brakes.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 10

Test the signal circuit of the brake fluid level indicator sensor for a short to ground. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 10

Replace the IPC. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Panel, Gauges, and Console.

Important: Perform the set up procedure for the IP.
