Circuit Description

The PASS-Key® III (VTD) module sets code B2960 when an invalid key has been used to attempt to start the vehicle.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

DTC B2960 indicates that an invalid key has been used to attempt to start the vehicle.

An invalid key is a key with a valid key code that has not been learned by the VTD module.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The VTD module flashes the PASS Key telltale at 1 flash per second.
    • The VTD module does not send the fuel enable signal to the PCM.
    • The vehicle will not start.
    • The VTD module stores a DTC B2960 in memory.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

    • The conditions for the fault are no longer present.
    • A history DTC will clear after 100 consecutive ignition cycles if the condition for the fault is no longer present.
    • The use of the scan tool.

Diagnostic Aids

Use the proper ignition key to start the vehicle.
