2009 Model Year Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) Information

Starting with the 2009 model year General Motors will discontinue the production and mailing of printed Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) cards. The information needed to decipher the VIN codes for all GM vehicles will be provided electronically both in SI and on the web.

In Canada, VIN information is also available on the GM infoNET and will be migrated to GM GlobalConnect in the near future.

VIN Information in SI

To access the VIN decoding information in SI:

  1. At the SI homepage, build a vehicle with division, make, and model year.
  2. Select the "General Information" section.
  3. Select the "Introduction" sub-section.
  4. Select the Title "Vehicle, Engine and Transmission ID and VIN Location, Derivative and Usage" for complete VIN code information.

VIN Information On the Web

Important: VIN information on the web is available without any password, account or login requirements. This method of access should now be used as the primary source for Government Agencies, Customers, Independent Repair Facilities, and any other outside body that requires GM VIN decoding information.

Important: For dealers in Canada, VIN information is also available on GM infoNET in English and French languages and will be migrated to GM GlobalConnect in the near future.

To access GM VIN information on the web:

  1. Direct your internet browser to: www.acdelcotechconnect.com .

  3. On the homepage, there is a link along the left side of the page labeled "GM VIN Information." Click the link (1) as shown in the graphic above.
  4. Important: 2009 VIN Information will not be available until mid-October 2008.

  5. You may access VIN information ranging from the current model year, back to 1972 by simply clicking on the model year you wish to view from the displayed list. The information on the web is presented as an electronic version of the familiar VIN card in the identical format (.pdf file). If you do not have unlimited access to the web, you may print the VIN information or save the individual model year file to your hard drive for use offline in Windows® by selecting:

    • Then select "Save-As"
    • Give the file a name, and save it to a preferred location on your hard drive.
