Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to Battery Disconnect Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1618030 Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .

    2. Caution: Refer to Sensing and Diagnostic Module Voltage after Ignition is Turned Off Caution in the Preface section.

  2. Remove 3 inflatable restraint steering wheel module bolts (1).

    3. Object Number: 1618031 Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the horn connector (2).
  4. Disconnect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module connector (3).

    5. Caution: When you are carrying an undeployed inflator module:

       • Do not carry the inflator module by the wires or connector on the inflator module
       • Make sure the bag opening points away from you
    When you are storing an undeployed inflator module, make sure the bag opening points away from the surface on which the inflator module rests. When you are storing a steering column, do not rest the column with the bag opening facing down and the column vertical. Provide free space for the air bag to expand in case of an accidental deployment. Otherwise, personal injury may result.

  5. Remove the inflatable restraint steering wheel module (1).

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 1618031 Size: SH
  1. Connect the inflatable restraint steering wheel module connector (3).
  2. Connector the horn connector (2).
  3. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module (1).

    4. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 1618030 Size: SH
  4. Install the inflatable restraint steering wheel module fasteners (1).

    5. Tighten
    Tighten the inflatable restraint steering wheel module fasteners to 12 N·m (106 lb in).

  5. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
