Circuit Description

When the transmission fluid is cold, the sensor resistance is high, As the transmission fluid warms up, the sensor resistance decreases. This diagnostic monitors the ATF temperature sensor circuit. The circuit may be functional but not in the normal operating range. this diagnostic indicates stuck, erratic, intermittent, or skewed values, resulting in reduced system performance.

If the TCM detects an intermittent voltage or no voltage change in the ATF temperature sensor circuit, then DTC 17 sets.

Conditions for Running the DTC

    • The system voltage is between 9.0-18.0 volts
    • Road test the vehicle. Refer to Road Test .

Conditions for Setting the DTC

Automatic transmission oil temperature is out of range, short circuit to voltage or circuit interruption.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

    • The TCM illuminates the A/T warning lamp when the diagnostic runs and fails
    • The TCM defaults to 80°C (176°F) and lockup and 4th gear are prohibited
    • Line pressure control is set to full throttle

Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC

The TCM turns Off the A/T warning lamp when the diagnostic runs and does not fail.
