EXHAUST SQUEAK OR NOISE NEW SEAL REPLACEMENT

ALL 1982-85 3.0L (VIN CODE E) & 1985 3.8L (VIN CODE 3) V-6 ENGINES

If a squeak at the exhaust manifold to exhaust pipe seal (donut) is encountered on the above engines, it can be repaired by replacing it with a new seal, part number 25523858. This condition may be noticeable when shifting from park to drive or reverse. When replacing this part on a 3.OL engine, the adapter must be switched from the old seal to the new or you can order an assembly, part number 25523937, which includes both seal and adapter. Exhaust manifold and pipe flanges must be cleaned thoroughly to remove seal residue prior to installation of the new part.

Complete elimination of the squeak may not occur until the vehicle has been driven for several miles after the repairs are completed.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
