WIPERS REMAIN ON CONTINUOUSLY PULSE WIPE MODULE CHANGE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1983 'J' and 1984 'P' Models

A condition may occur on some 1983 'J' and 1984 'P' models whereby the windshield wipers may remain on continuously and cannot be shut off except by turing the ignition off. This may be caused by a failed wiper module.

Wiper blades left parked too high on the windshield can become stuck by snow and/or ice. When the ignition is turned to the crank position, a transient voltage spike from the wiper motor can damage the pulse wiper module.

If the wiper module should fail, it should be replaced with Part Number 10036435 and the ground wire screw secured to 3-4.6 N.m (2-3 lb. ft.).

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
