Subject:U1000 Stored in EBCM and Traction Control Indicator On

Models:2005-2006 Buick LaCrosse and Allure (Canada Only)
2005-2006 Pontiac Grand Prix

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

NOTE: This ONLY applies to the 2005-2006 Pontiac Grand Prix and Buick LaCrosse equipped WITH remote start and WITHOUT Stabilitrak.

The setting of U1000 in the EBCM on vehicles equipped with remote start option is normal. After a remote start, when inserting the key in the ignition and turning it to the run position, the IPC and driver information center will be initialized. The Driver Information Center (DIC) will display "GP" then the Traction Off indicator for a couple of seconds, followed by the date, time, and Park. Traction control will operate normally after a remote start even after the Traction Off indicator is displayed momentarily. If the vehicle is started with the ignition key the DIC will display "GP" and then the date, time, and Park.

Recommendation/Instructions:

Before diagnosing a U1000 in the EBCM, be advised the code could have been set during a remote start and it is not likely related to other codes or symptoms.

Do NOT attempt to diagnose the traction off indicator if it only displays after a remote start.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
