Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.


    Object Number: 609483  Size: SH
  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering column from the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  3. Remove the following from the steering shaft:
  4. 3.1. Steering shaft seal (1)
    3.2. Sensor retainer (2)
    3.3. Steering wheel position sensor (3). Refer to Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering .

  5. Remove the following from the steering shaft:
  6. 4.1. Lower spring retainer (1)
    4.2. Lower bearing spring (2)
    4.3.  Lower bearing seat (3)
    4.4. Adapter and bearing assembly (4)

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 322997  Size: SH
  1. Install the following onto the steering shaft:
  2. 1.1.  Adapter and bearing assembly (4)

            Important: The lower bearing seat must be in contact with the adapter and bearing assembly.

    1.2. Lower bearing seat (3)
    1.3. Lower bearing spring (2)
    1.4. Lower spring retainer (1)

  3. Install the steering wheel position sensor (1). Refer to Steering Wheel Position Sensor Centering .

  4. Object Number: 323006  Size: SH

    Important:  Align the slots of the sensor retainer (1) to the ribs of the adapter and bearing assembly. Push the sensor retainer (1) until it contacts the steering wheel position sensor.

  5. Install the sensor retainer (1).
  6. Install the steering shaft seal (2).
  7. Install the steering column to the vehicle. Refer to Steering Column Replacement .
  8. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
