Removal Procedure

    Caution: Refer to SIR Caution in the Preface section.

    Caution: Do not strike or jolt the inflatable restraint front end sensor. Before applying power to the front end sensor make sure that it is securely fastened. Failure to observe the correct installation procedure could cause SIR deployment, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  2. Remove the radiator upper air baffle and deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Upper Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.

  3. Object Number: 809051  Size: SH
  4. Remove the sensor bolts (1).
  5. Remove the sensor (2) from the upper radiator core support (3).

  6. Object Number: 809058  Size: SH
  7. Remove the orange connector position assurance (CPA) (2) from the yellow sensor harness connector (3).
  8. Disconnect the harness connector from the sensor (1).
  9. Remove the sensor from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Remove any dirt, grease, or other impurities from the mounting surface.

  2. Object Number: 809058  Size: SH
  3. Connect the harness connector (3) to the sensor (1).
  4. Install the orange CPA (2) into the yellow sensor harness connector (3).

  5. Object Number: 809051  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Position the sensor (2) horizontally on the upper radiator core support (3).
  7. Point the arrow on the sensor toward the front of the vehicle.
  8. Install the sensor bolts (1).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 9 N·m (80 lb in).

  10. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling .
  11. Install the radiator upper air baffle and deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Upper Baffle and Deflector Replacement in Engine Cooling.
