J 38778 Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Open the attachment cover on the upper guide loop of the front seat belt.
  2. Remove the bolt (1) from the guide loop attachment on the upper seat belt.
  3. Remove the guide loop attachment from the adjuster bracket.
  4. Pull the door weather-strip from the pinchweld flange as needed.

  6. For a vehicle without the side air bag, use J 38778 to disengage the upper and lower clips (2) on the trim panel.
  7. For vehicles equipped with the side air bag use the following procedure:
  8. 6.1. Use J 38778 to disengage the lower clip on the trim panel.
    6.2. Pull out on the lower edge of the panel until to a 45-degree angle to the center pillar.
    6.3. Slide the panel down to disengage the top T-hook (1).
  9. Remove the upper trim panel from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the upper trim panel to the center pillar.
  2. For vehicles without the air bag panel, align the clips and press in until fully seated.
  3. For vehicles equipped with the air bag panel, use the following procedure:
  4. 3.1. Swing out the lower edge until the panel is at a 45-degree angle with the center pillar.
    3.2. Engage the T-hook (1).
    3.3. Slide the T-hook up and swing the panel down to the installed position.
  5. Press firmly on the upper trim panel until the clips (2) are fully seated.

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the guide loop attachment bolt (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the bolt to 42 N·m (31 lb ft).

  9. Close the attachment cover on the upper guide loop of the front seat belt.
  10. Install the door weatherstrip.
