Schematic Reference: Instrument Cluster Schematics

DEFINITION: This diagnostic procedure applies only to the serial data gages located in the instrument cluster which include the speedometer, tachometer and the engine coolant temperature gage, if equipped.

Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Install a scan tool.
  3. With the scan tool, perform the Displays Test.

Does the gage move from 0 to its maximum value and back to 0 when you perform the Displays Test?

    Important: If the suspect gage is the speedometer, the drive wheels of the vehicle must be raised and the transmission must be placed in drive or first gear. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.

  1. Install a scan tool.
  2. Start the engine.
  3. with a scan tool observe the suspect sage parameter in the engine control module (ECM) data list or the powertrain control module (PCM) data list.

Does the parameter match the gage display?

Replace the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Refer to Control Module References in Computer/Integrating Systems for replacement, setup, and programming.

Did you complete the replacement?

Go to Step 5

  1. Use the scan tool in order to clear any induced DTCs.
  2. Operate the system in order to verify the repair.

Did you correct the condition?
