Removal Procedure

Tools Required

J 28733-B Front Hub Spindle Remover

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Remove the tire and the wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.

  3. Object Number: 188809  Size: SH
  4. Disconnect the wheel speed electrical connector (2).

  5. Object Number: 477813  Size: SH
  6. Remove the ABS sensor from the mounting bracket.
  7. Remove the caliper and mounting bracket. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Front Disc Brakes.
  8. Remove the rotor. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement in Front Disc Brakes.
  9. Important: Do NOT remove the nut at this time. Failure to follow the proper removal sequence may cause permanent bearing damage.

  10. Loosen the drive axle shaft nut one turn. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.

  11. Object Number: 177686  Size: SH
  12. Use the J 28733-B in order to push the axle splines back out of the hub/bearing.

  13. Object Number: 357695  Size: SH

    Important: Protect the axle seals (boots) from damage during handling.

  14. Remove and DISCARD the hub/bearing to knuckle attaching bolts.
  15. Remove the hub/bearing.
  16. Inspect all components for wear or damage.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install NEW knuckle to hub/bearing attaching bolts.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

    Tighten
    Tighten the wheel bearing/hub bolts to 130 N·m (96 lb ft).

  3. Install the wheel drive axle nut. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement in Wheel Drive Shafts.
  4. Install the rotor. Refer to Front Brake Rotor Replacement in Front Disc Brakes.
  5. Install the brake caliper and mounting bracket. Refer to Front Brake Caliper Bracket Replacement in Front Disc Brakes.

  6. Object Number: 477813  Size: SH
  7. Properly position the ABS sensor to the mounting bracket.

  8. Object Number: 188809  Size: SH
  9. Connect the wheel speed sensor electrical connector (2).
  10. Install the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  11. Lower the vehicle.
