Was the vehicle checked for diagnostic trouble codes (DTC's)?

Go to Step  2

Go to Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls - 3.1L (LG8) or Powertrain On Board Diagnostic (OBD) System Check in Engine Controls - 3.8L

Inspect the fuel gauge.

Does the fuel gauge work?

--

Go to Step  3

Go to Gages Inoperative - All

  1. Disconnect the engine oil level switch
  2. Turn the ignition to RUN position
  3. Connect a 3 amp fused jumper between the engine oil level sensor harness connector terminal A and ground

Is the low oil level indicator ON?

--

Go to Step  4

Go to Step  6

Inspect circuit 1174 between connector C2 terminal 58 at the PCM and terminal A at the engine oil level switch for an open or high resistance.

Is circuit 1174 open or have high resistance?

--

Go to Step  5

Repair circuit 1174.

Is the repair complete?

System OK

--

  1. With engine oil level switch still disconnected, connect a 3 amp fused jumper between the engine oil level sensor harness connector A and B.
  2. Turn the ignition to the RUN position.

Is the low oil level indicator ON?

Go to Step  7

Go to Step  8

Inspect circuit 451 for an open or high resistance.

Is the repair complete?

--

System OK
