Playing the Radio

Perform one of the following functions in order to play the radio or program the clock:

    • Volume--Push the VOLUME button in order to turn the system ON and OFF.
        Increase the volume by turning the knob clockwise
        Decrease the volume by turning the knob counterclockwise
    • Recall--Press the Recall button in order to display the time with the ignition in the OFF position. When the radio is playing, press this button in order to recall the station frequency.

Finding A Station

Perform one of the following functions in order to select a station:

    • AM-FM--Press the AM-FM button in order to switch between AM, FM1 and FM2. The display shows the selection.
    • Tune--Press the Tune knob lightly so it extends. Turn the lower knob in order to choose the radio stations. Push the knob back in when not in use.
    • Seek--Press the UP or DOWN arrow in order to select the next higher or next lower station and remain there.
    • Pushbuttons--The 6 numbered pushbuttons allow you to return to the preselected stations. The customer can select 1-18 stations (6 AM, 6 FM1 and 6 FM2).
        Perform the following steps in order to preset the stations:
        1. Turn the radio ON.
        2. Press the AM-FM in order to select the band.
        3. Tune in the desired station.
        4. Press 1 of the 6 numbered pushbuttons until SET appears on the display.

Whenever the customer presses that numbered pushbutton, the station that was set will return.

        5. Repeat the steps for each pushbutton.

Setting the Tone

Perform the following functions in order to set the tone:

    • Bass--Slide the lever UP or DOWN in order to increase or decrease the bass.
    • Treb--Slide the lever UP or DOWN in order to increase or decrease the treble. If a station is weak or noisy, decrease the treble.

Adjusting the Speakers

Perform the following functions in order to adjust the speakers:

    • Balance--Press the Balance knob lightly so it extends. Turn the control behind the upper knob in order to move the sound to the left or right speakers. The middle position balances the sound between the speakers. Push the knob back in when not in use.
    • Fade--Press the Fade knob lightly so it extends. Turn the control behind the lower knob in order to move the sound to the front or rear speakers. The middle position balances the sound between the speakers. Push the knob back in when not in use.

Playing a Compact Disc (CD)

Insert a disc partially into the slot with the label side up. The player will pull it in. The compact disc symbol will appear on the display. With the ignition and the radio are both ON, the disc will begin playing and CD will appear on the display next to the compact disc symbol. Press EJECT in order to insert a disc when the ignition is OFF.

The integral CD player can play 8 cm single mini-discs. The full-size compact discs and mini discs are loaded in the same manner.

If driving on a rough road or the temperature is very hot the disc may not play and an E (error) and a number may appear on the radio display. If the disc is ejected:

    • The disc is upside down
    • The disc is dirty, scratched or wet
    • The air is very humid. Wait approximately an hour and try again.

Perform the following functions in order to play or adjust a cassette:

    • PREV(1)--Press this button or the SEEK down arrow in order to go to the start of the current track if more than 8 seconds have played. Hold the button or press it more than once, the player will continue moving back through the disc.
    • NEXT(2)--Press this button or the SEEK up arrow in order to go to the start of the next track if more than 8 seconds have played. Hold the button or press it more than once, the player will continue moving back through the disc.
    • RDM(3)--Press this button in order to hear the tracks in random rather than in sequential order. The display will show RDM. Press RDM again in order to turn off random play.
    • REV(5)--Press this button in order to quickly reverse within a track. Release it to play a passage. The sound will be at a reduced volume. The display will show an elapsed time.
    • FWD(6)--Press and hold this button in order to quickly advance within a track. The sound will be at a reduced volume. The display will show elapsed time.
    • Recall--Press this button in order to view the specific track that is currently playing. Press recall again within 5 seconds to view how long the track has been playing. When a new track starts to play the track number will also appear. Press recall a third time and the time of day will be displayed.
    • AM-FM--Press this button in order to play the radio when a disc is playing.
    • CD/PLAY--Press this button in order to change to the disc function when the radio is ON.
    • EJECT--Press this button in order to remove the disc or stop the disc and switch to the radio. EJECT may be activated with the radio OFF. If you leave a compact disc in the player while listening to the radio it may become warm.

Compact Disc (CD) Adapter Kits

Use a CD adapter kit with the cassette tape player after activating the bypass feature on the tape player. In order to activate the bypass feature the ignition must be in the ON position. Turn the radio OFF. Press the TAPE/PLAY and hold for 3 seconds. After 3 seconds, the tape symbol in the display will flash for 2 seconds indicating the bypass feature is active. Turn the radio ON and insert the adapter. This bypass feature will remain active until the EJECT button is pressed.

    • Recall--Press the Recall button briefly in order to recall the station being played or to display the clock. If you press the knob with the ignition OFF, the clock will show for a few seconds.

Setting the Tone

Equalizer: A 7 band equalizer is a part of the audio system. Slide the levers up to boost or down to reduce frequency range.

With the optional compact disc (CD) player, 1-12 discs can be played continuously. Normal size discs can be played using the trays supplied in the magazine. The 8 cm single mini-discs can be played only with the specially designed trays.

The magazine needs to be loaded with discs before playing a compact disc. Press the button on the back of the magazine and pull gently on one of the trays. Load the trays from bottom to top, placing a disc on the tray label side down. If a loaded disc is label side up, the disc will not play and an error will occur. Gently push the tray back in to the magazine slot. Repeat this procedure for loading up to 12 discs in the magazine.

Once the discs are loaded in the magazine, slide open the door of the CD player. Push the magazine into the player in the direction of the arrow marked on the top of the magazine.

Close the door by sliding it all the way to the left. If the door is left partially open the player will not operate and the error will occur. When the door is closed, the player will begin checking for discs in the magazine. This will continue for up to 2 minutes depending on the number of discs loaded.

In order to eject the magazine from the player, slide the CD player door all the way open. The magazine will automatically eject. Remember to keep the door closed whenever possible to keep dirt and dust from getting inside the player.

All of the CD functions are controlled by the radio buttons except for ejecting the magazine. Whenever a CD magazine with discs is loaded in the player, the CD symbol will appear on the radio display. If the CD player is checking the magazine for compact discs, the CD symbol will flash on the display until the player is ready to play. When a CD begins playing, CD will appear in the bottom left corner and a disc and track number will be displayed. The disc numbers are listed on the front of the magazine.

Playing a Compact Disc (CD)

Perform the following functions in order to play or adjust a CD:

    • PREV(1)--Press this button in order to go to the start of the current track if more than 8 seconds have played. Press PREV again to go to the previous track on the disc.
    • NEXT(2)--Press this button in order to advance to the next track on the disc.
    • PROG(3)--Press this button in order to select the next disc in the magazine. If a CD cannot be played the number will be skipped when selecting discs while using the PROG button.
    • RANDOM(4)--Press this button in order to enter the random play mode. RDM will appear on the display. While in this mode the tracks will be played in random order. Pressing PROG or SEEK while in the random mode will scan the discs and tracks randomly. Press this button again in order to turn off the random feature and return to normal operation.
    • REV(5)--Press and hold this button in order to quickly reverse within a track. As the CD reverses, the display will show an elapsed time.
    • FWD(6)--Press and hold this button in order to quickly advance within a track. As the CD advances, the display will show elapsed time.
    • Recall--Press this button in order to view the specific track that is currently playing. Press RECALL again within 5 seconds to view how long the track has been playing. EL, TM will appear on the display when in the elapsed mode. When a new track starts to play the track number will also appear. Press RECALL a third time and the time of day will be displayed.
    • SEEK--Press the SEEK down arrow button while playing a CD in order to go back to the start of the current track if more than 8 seconds have played. Press the SEEK button again in order for the CD player to go back to the previous tracks. Press the SEEK up arrow and it will go to the next higher track on the disc.
    • TAPE/PLAY--Press this button in order to play a CD with the magazine loaded in the player and the radio is playing. In order to return to the radio while the CD is playing, press AM-FM. Press the AM-FM button in order to switch between a cassette tape and a CD if both are loaded.

Compact Disc (CD) Adapter Kits

Turn the radio ON and insert the adapter. This bypass feature will remain active until the EJECT button is pressed.
