Does the scan tool power up?

  1. Turn ON the ignition, leaving the engine OFF
  2. Attempt to communicate with each module on the E and C Data Line.

Does any module on the E and C Data Line Communicate with the scan tool?

--

Go to Step 5

Go to Step 3

Test the battery positive voltage circuit(s) and the ignition voltage circuit(s) of the radio for an open. Refer to Control Module References for radio schematics. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

--

Go to Control Module References for the applicable System Check

Go to Step 4

  1. Turn off the ignition switch.
  2. Test the ground circuit(s) of the radio for an open. Refer to Control Module References for radio schematics. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Control Module References for the applicable System Check

Go to Step 5

  1. Turn off the ignition switch.
  2. Test the ground circuit(s) of the module that does communicate with the scan tool for an open. Refer to Control Module References for the applicable schematics. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Control Module References for the applicable System Check

Go to Step 7

  1. Turn the ignition switch ON.
  2. Disconnect the scan tool if connected.
  3. Test the E and C Data Line circuit between the DLC connector, radio, CD Player and the Instrument Cluster Head-Up Display (HUD). Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Control Module References for the applicable System Check

Go to Step 8

Test the E and C Data Line circuit between the DLC connector, Radio, CD Player and the Instrument Cluster Head-Up Display (HUD) for an open. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Control Module References for the applicable System Check

Go to Step 9

Replace the module that will not communicate with the scan tool. Refer to Control Module References for the applicable replacement procedure.
