Disassembly Procedure

J 24319-01 Universal Steering Linkage Puller


    Object Number: 317293  Size: SH
  1. Pull the prevailing torque nut (2) from outer tie rod assembly (1).

  2. Object Number: 297349  Size: SH
  3. Loosen the jam nut (2) on the inner tie rod assembly (1).

  4. Object Number: 297353  Size: SH
  5. Remove the outer tie rod assembly (2) from the steering knuckle (1) using J 24319-01 .

  6. Object Number: 297358  Size: SH
  7. Remove the outer tie rod assembly (3) from the inner tie rod assembly (1).

Assembly Procedure


    Object Number: 297355  Size: SH
  1. Connect the outer tie rod assembly (3) to the inner tie rod (1).
  2. Do not tighten the jam nut (2).

  4. Connect the outer tie rod assembly (2) to the steering knuckle (1).

  5. Object Number: 317293  Size: SH

    Important: Be sure the rack and pinion boot is not twisted or puckered during toe adjustment.

  6. Adjust toe by turning the inner tie rod. Follow the recommended manufacturer specifications.
  7. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  8. Connect the prevailing torque nut (2) to the outer tie rod stud (1).
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the prevailing torque nut (2) to 30 N·m (22 lb ft). Tighten the prevailing torque nut (2) an additional 115 degrees of rotation.

    Tighten
    Tighten the jam nut against the outer tie rod to 68 N·m (50 lb ft).
