Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  2. Notice: Refer to Catalytic Converter Movement Notice in the Preface section.

  3. Suitably support the exhaust system.

  5. Remove the exhaust tail pipe.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install and adjust the exhaust tail pipe before tightening the tail pipe clamp.
  2. Steps 2, 3, and 4 provide alignment guidelines.

  3. The rotational angle of the exhaust tail pipe in relation to horizontal can be no more than +/- 2 °.
  4. Right-hand exhaust tail pipe shown. Left-hand opposite.

  5. The maximum allowable difference between the right-hand and the left-hand exhaust tail pipes is 3.0 mm (0.11 in)

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  9. Tighten the tail pipe clamp.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the tail pipe clamp to 35 N·m (26 lb ft).

  11. Remove the support from the exhaust system.
  12. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks and underbody contact.
  13. Lower the vehicle.
