Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the left valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
  2. Remove the right valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
  3. Remove the upper intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  4. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  5. Remove the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .

  6. Object Number: 61836  Size: SH
  7. Remove the lifter guide bolts.
  8. Remove the valve lifter guide(s).
  9. Remove the valve lifter(s).
  10. Clean all gasket surfaces with degreaser.
  11. Clean the valve train parts.
  12. Inspect the valve lifters and the cam lobes for wear. Refer to Valve Lifters Clean and Inspect .

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 61836  Size: SH
  1. Coat the lifters with prelube GM P/N 1052365 or equivalent.
  2. Install the lifters to the same location from which they were removed.
  3. Install the lifter guide.
  4. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  5. Install the lifter guide bolts.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the lifter guide bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  7. Install the valve rocker arms and pushrods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  8. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  9. Install the upper intake manifold. Refer to Intake Manifold Replacement .
  10. Install the right valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
  11. Install the left valve rocker arm cover. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm Cover Replacement .
