Battery Cable Replacement Positive

Removal Procedure

Important: When replacing battery cables be sure to use replacement cables that are the same type, gauge, length, and that follow the same routing.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 289316  Size: SH
  3. Disconnect the battery positive cable from the battery.

  4. Object Number: 289343  Size: SH
  5. Remove the remote positive stud cover.
  6. Remove the battery (positive) cable junction block lead nut and the battery (positive) cable from the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  7. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  8. Remove the front lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.

  10. Remove the battery (positive) cable from the starter motor BAT terminal.

  11. Object Number: 289319  Size: SH
  12. Release the battery cable retainers from the engine frame.
  13. remove the battery cable wiring harness conduit from the retainers.
  14. Remove the battery positive cable from the wiring harness conduit.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the battery positive cable into the wiring harness conduit.

  2. Object Number: 289319  Size: SH
  3. Install the battery cable retainers to the radiator support.

  4. Object Number: 289333  Size: SH
  5. Install the battery positive cable to the starter motor BAT terminal.
  6. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  7. Install the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut.
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the starter solenoid BAT terminal nut to 10 N·m (84 lb in).

  9. Install the front lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  10. Lower the vehicle.

  11. Object Number: 289343  Size: SH
  12. Install the battery positive cable and the battery (positive) cable junction block lead nut to the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the battery positive cable junction block lead nut to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  14. Install the remote positive stud cover.

  15. Object Number: 289316  Size: SH
  16. Install the battery positive cable to the battery.
  17. Tighten
    Tighten the battery positive cable terminal bolt to 15 N·m (11 lb ft).

  18. Connect the battery ground (negative) cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Battery Cable Replacement Negative

Removal Procedure

Important: When replacing battery cables be sure to use replacement cables that are the same type, gauge, length, and that follow the same routing.

  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable from the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

  2. Object Number: 289350  Size: SH
  3. Remove the battery negative cable bolt and the battery negative cable from the frame rail near the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  4. Raise and suitably support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle in General Information.
  5. Remove the front lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.

  6. Object Number: 289327  Size: SH
  7. Remove the transaxle stud nut and the battery ground (negative) cable from the transaxle stud.

  8. Object Number: 289319  Size: SH
  9. Release the battery cable retainers from the radiator support.
  10. Remove the battery cable wiring harness conduit from the retainers.
  11. Remove the battery negative cable from the wiring harness conduit.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the battery negative cable into the wiring harness conduit.

  2. Object Number: 289319  Size: SH
  3. Install the battery cable retainers to the radiator support.

  4. Object Number: 289327  Size: SH

    Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure.   5. Install the battery negative cable and the transaxle stud nut to the transaxle stud.
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the transaxle stud nut to 25 N·m (18 lb ft).

  7. Install the front lower air deflector. Refer to Radiator Air Baffle Assemblies and Deflectors in Engine Cooling.
  8. Lower the vehicle.

  9. Object Number: 289350  Size: SH
  10. Connect the battery negative cable and the battery negative cable bolt to the frame rail near the underhood accessory wiring junction block.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the battery negative cable bolt to 8 N·m (71 lb in).

  12. Connect the battery negative cable to the battery. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
