DELCO REMY DIRECT IGN. REPLACEMENT PARTS

1987 6000, SUNBIRD AND GRAND AM MODELS

Analysis of returned warranty parts has shown that there are virtually no instances in which it is necessary to replace the entire Direct Ignition System (DIS) coil and module assembly to repair an ignition system malfunction. When the diagnosis procedure given in the vehicle service manual indicates a DIS condition, the procedure should be followed until an ignition coil, the DIS module, or other component part is identified as the cause of the condition, only the problem component part should then be replaced.

Because of the lack of situations in which the entire DIS coil and module assembly needs replacement, these complete assemblies are being discontinued as service parts. This will apply to past and future model year vehicles in addition to the above listed applications.

NOTICE: The component parts making up the coil and module assembly will continue to be available as in the past.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
