  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Open the rear compartment.

Does the rear compartment lamp illuminate?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Go to Step 3

  1. Disconnect the rear compartment lamp.
  2. Probe the courtesy lamps supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment lamp with a test lamp that is connected to a good ground.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 4

Connect the test lamp between the courtesy lamps supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment lamp and the rear compartment lamp control circuit.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

Go to Step 7

  1. Reconnect the rear compartment lamp.
  2. Disconnect the rear compartment lid release actuator.
  3. Connect a 3-amp fused jumper wire between the rear compartment lamp control circuit and a good ground.

Does the rear compartment lamp illuminate?

Test for an open or high resistance in the ground circuit of the rear compartment lamp switch. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Go to Step 13

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lamp. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Inspect for poor connections at the harness connector of the rear compartment lid release actuator. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair an open, high resistance, or short to ground in the courtesy lamp supply voltage circuit of the rear compartment lamp. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Repair an open or high resistance in the rear compartment lamp control circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.
