Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

Go to Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle in Vehicle DTC Information

1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
2. Place the gear selector in park or neutral.

Do the backup lamps illuminate?

Go to Step 3

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections in Wiring Systems

Disconnect the park neutral position switch for automatic transmissions or the backup lamp switch for manual transmissions.

Are the backup lamps illuminated?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Repair the short to battery positive voltage in the backup lamp supply voltage circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you complete the repair?

Go to Step 6

Replace the appropriate switch. Refer to Park/Neutral Position Switch Replacement in Automatic Transmission.

Did you complete the replacement?

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
