Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 803170  Size: SH
  1. Disconnect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
  2. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  3. Remove the instrument panel (I/P). Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement .
  4. Remove the from the I/P driver knee bolster reinforcement bolts.
  5. Remove the I/P driver knee bolster reinforcement.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 799963  Size: SH
  1. Install the I/P driver knee bolster reinforcement.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the I/P driver knee bolster reinforcement bolts in the sequence shown.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  5. Install the I/P. Refer to Instrument Panel Trim Pad Replacement .
  6. Enable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling and SIR Disabling and Enabling in SIR.
  7. Connect the battery negative cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection in Engine Electrical.
