Front Side Door Trim Panel Replacement Pontiac

J 38778 Door Trim Pad Clip Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the front door warning reflector. Refer to Front Side Door Warning Reflector Replacement .
  2. Remove the trim panel insert. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Insert Replacement .
  3. Remove the door handle bezel. Refer to Door Handle Bezel Replacement .
  4. Remove the window regulator handle, if equipped. Refer to Door Window Regulator Handle Replacement .
  5. Remove the accessory switch plate from the trim panel. Refer to Power Accessory Switch Panel Replacement .
  6. Remove the door panel screw (3) through the access hole located behind the reflector.
  7. Remove the screw (2) from the arm-rest pull handle.
  8. Remove the trim panel screw (1) through the switch plate opening.
  9. Using J 38778 and starting at the door bottom, disengage the door trim panel retainers.
  10. Lift up on the trim panel to disengage it from the inner belt molding.
  11. Remove the door trim panel from the door.
  12. Disconnect the rear deck release switch connector.
  13. On the driver side remove the rear deck release switch, if required.

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the rear deck release switch, if required.
  2. Connect the rear deck release electrical connector.
  3. Position the trim panel on the inner belt molding and press down.
  4. Install the door trim panel to the door, pressing into place until the retainers are engaged.
  5. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  6. Install the trim panel screw (1) through the switch bezel opening.
  7. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  8. Install the trim panel screw (2) to the arm-rest pull handle.
  9. Tighten
    Tighten the screws to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  10. Install the door panel screw (3) through the access hole located behind the warning reflector.
  11. Tighten
    Tighten the screw to 3 N·m (27 lb in).

  12. Install the accessory switch plate to the trim panel. Refer to Power Accessory Switch Panel Replacement .
  13. Install the window regulator handle to the door. Refer to Door Window Regulator Handle Replacement .
  14. Install the inside door handle bezel. Refer to Door Handle Bezel Replacement .
  15. Install the trim panel insert. Refer to Front Side Door Trim Panel Insert Replacement .
  16. Install the warning reflector. Refer to Front Side Door Warning Reflector Replacement .
