Removal Procedure


    Object Number: 404401  Size: SH
  1. Remove all related panels and components including the following:
  2. • Roof panel
    • Upper outer rail reinforcement (1)
    • Quarter panel, COUPE MODELS ONLY
  3. Visually inspect and restore as much of the damage as possible to factory specifications.
  4. Remove the following as necessary:
  5. • Sealers
    • Sound deadeners
    • Anti-corrosion materials
  6. Locate, mark and drill out all factory welds. Note the number of welds for installation of the service assembly.
  7. Remove the damaged door frame opening.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 404401  Size: SH
  1. Prepare mating surfaces and check for proper fit of the door frame opening service assembly.
  2. Drill 8 mm (5/16 in) plug weld hole on the service assembly as necessary in the locations noted from the original assembly.
  3. In any area damaged beyond recognition, space plug weld holes every 40 mm (1 1/2 in) apart.
  4. Position the service assembly.
  5. Check fit using body dimensions and plug weld accordingly with frequent measurements to ensure proper fit.
  6. Inject expandable foam into the A-Pillar through the bottom interior trim-mounting hole.
  7. Clean and prepare welded surfaces.
  8. Important: Prior to refinishing, refer to the publication GM 4901M-2000 "GM Approved Refinish Materials" for recommended products. Do not combine paint systems. Refer to paint manufacturer's recommendations.

  9. Apply approved anti-corrosion primer.
  10. Apply a full-bodied caulk along the surface of the baffle (1) to ensure a proper seal with the inner cowl plenum.
  11. Apply sealers and refinish as necessary.
  12. Install all related panels and components.
