Removal Procedure
  1. Remove the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
  2. Remove the rocker arms and push rods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .

    3. Object Number: 54701 Size: SH

    Important: Keep the valve lifters in order. You must install the lifters in the original position.

  3. Remove the valve lifter guide bolts.
  4. Remove the valve lifter guide.
  5. Remove the valve lifter.

Installation Procedure

    Object Number: 54701 Size: SH
  1. Install the lifters into their original positions. Coat the valve lifter with GM P/N United States 1052365, GM P/N Canada 992869 or the equivalent.
  2. Install the valve lifter guide.

    3. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the valve lifter guide bolts.

    4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 10 N·m (89 lb in).

  4. Install the rocker arms and push rods. Refer to Valve Rocker Arm and Push Rod Replacement .
  5. Install the lower intake manifold. Refer to Lower Intake Manifold Replacement .
