REVISED QUARTER WINDOW MODULE REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE

REVISED QUARTER WINDOW MODULE REPLACEMENT PROCEDURES

Models Affected: 1985-88 GRAND AM

A new procedure has been developed for modular quarter window installation to prevent itching noise and paint damage. A tape has been released, Part Number 12393610, to provide the required clearance of the module to the body. This tape is to be added to the module prior to installation.

It is also recommended that no urethane solvents or solvent cleaners be used on the window module as they could cause cracking or crazing of the plastic module.

When removal or replacement of the quarter window module is required for any reason, the following installation procedure must be used.

REMOVAL:

------- Remove the quarter window module as described in the 1988 Service Manual.

CLEANING:

-------- DO NOT USE SOLVENTS of any kind on the plastic module material. Trim off any loose urethane material to prepare the module for installation.

INSTALLATION:

------------ 1. Prime the quarter window glass molding and/or frame with black primer in Urethane Adhesive Kit 9636067 or equivalent. Allow the primer to dry five minutes.

2. Apply tape, Part Number 12393610, to the inside surface of the outer flange of the window module for the entire periphery of the module and cut off the excess. DO NOT REMOVE THE CLEAR LINER OF THE TAPE. (Figure 1)

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
