INSTRUMENT PANEL BUZZING NOISE INSTALL I/P INSULATORS

SUBJECT: INSTRUMENT PANEL BUZZING NOISE (PROCEDURE AND INSTALL I/P INSULATOR)

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985-90 PONTIAC GRAND AM

Condition:

---------- Some 1985-90 Pontiac Grand Ams may exhibit a buzzing noise at the right side of the instrument panel (I/P).

Cause:

------- Rough road conditions or certain engine RPMs may cause the right side of the Instrument Panel to vibrate against the right hand windshield garnish moulding.

Correction:

------------ Install I/P insulator P/N 25522468 as follows:

1. Remove RH and LH defroster grilles by prying upward gently. 2. Remove (4) I/P attaching screws in grille openings. 3. Remove RH lower insulator panel (3) screws. 4. Remove centre support screw. 5. Remove RH lower I/P corner nut. 6. Pull I/P rearward enough to gain access to garnish moulding. 7. Apply Insulator P/N 25522468. 8. Install RH lower I/P corner nut - tighten to 10 N.m (11 ft.lbs.). 9. Install centre support screw - tighten to 3 N.m (25 in.lbs.). 10. Install RH insulator and screws - tighten to 2 N.m (17 in.lbs.). 11. Install (4) upper I/P attaching screws - tighten 4 N.m (35 in.lbs.). 12. Install RH and LH defroster grilles.
