ENG.STALL - INITIAL COLD START INTERMITTENT STALL ON DECEL.

1986=87 GRAND AM MODELS EQUIPPED WITH 3.0L MPFI ENGINES (VIN CODE L)

Some 1986 and 1987 Grand Am models equipped with a 3.0L MFI engine (VIN Code L) may experience one or more of the following conditions:

- Poor cold driveability (tip-in sags, hesitations, rough idle). - Will not stay running on the initial start when the engine is cold (with proper fuel pressure and no leak down). - Engine intermittently will not stay running on decel or during parking lot maneuvers, under closed throttle conditions.

If any of these conditions are experienced on a vehicle when the basic engine, controls and systems are performing properly, and cannot be repaired by using currently published service and diagnostic procedures, it may be necessary to install a new service PROM.

These PROM's are currently available through General Motors Service Parts Operation (GMSPO) under the following part numbers:

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
