Intermittent Air Bag Lamp on And No DTCs - keywords coil SDM SIR

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

The airbag lamp on with no DTCs. The concern may be current or intermittent.

If the airbag lamp is on and there are no DTCs, the SIR data display will indicate that the airbag lamp is being commanded on by the SDM. Even though no DTCs are displayed, if you clear DTCs in the SDM, the lamp should turn off after the IPC bulb check. The only things that can cause the airbag lamp to come on with no codes is if there is an excessive voltage drop on the SDM power or ground circuit.

Voltage drop the power and ground circuits. Be sure to also voltage drop the case ground circuit as well. Correct any voltage drops over.5 volts.

Note:  If the airbag lamp is on and there are current or history DTCs, follow the published diagnosis.

Note: Replacing the SDM will not resolve this concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
