Subject:Radio Volume Can Be Heard When Muted

Models:2008 Pontiac G8

This PI was superseded PIC4814 due to original PI being misloaded into SI. Please discard PIC4814.

The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

The radio volume does not turn off when the mute button is pressed on the radio or on the Steering Wheel Controls (SWC).

Recommendation/Instructions:

The Pontiac G8 is equipped with a Blaupunkt radio. One of the operational characteristics of this radio is when the mute button is pressed the radio does not completely mute. This can occur depending on where the radio volume is set. The higher the volume setting, the louder the radio will be even in "Mute" mode. The radio actually reduces the volume when in mute mode. This is a normal operational characteristic of the Blaupunkt radio and no parts should be replaced for this concern.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
