Did you perform the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle?

  1. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
  2. Ensure that the gear selector is in park or neutral.

Are the back up lamps off?

Go to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections

Go to Step 3

Remove the back up lamp relay. Refer to Relay Replacement .

Are the back up lamps illuminated?

Go to Step 4

Go to Step 5

Test for a short to voltage in the backup lamp voltage supply circuit. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs .

Did you find and correct the condition?

Go to Step 9

Inspect for poor connections at the back up lamp relay. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Inspect for poor connections at the fuse block - rear. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs .

Replace the back up lamp relay. Refer to Relay Replacement .

Replace the fuse block - rear. Refer to Power and Grounding Component Views .

Operate the system in order to verify the repair.
