Generator Replacement LX9

The generator does not require periodic lubrication. The rotor shaft is mounted on bearings. Each bearing contains a permanent grease supply. Periodically check the mounting bolts for tightness, and the drive belt tension. The drive belt is self-adjusting, within the operating limits of the tensioner. Refer to Engine Mechanical for tensioner information.

Removal Procedure

Important: Service the generator as a complete unit.

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  3. Remove the generator electrical connections.
  4. Remove the generator mounting nuts and bolts.
  5. Remove the generator.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Install the generator .
  2. Tighten

        • Tighten the bolts to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).
        • Tighten the nuts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
  3. Install the generator electrical connections.
  4. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  5. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the air cleaner resonator. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement .
  3. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  4. Remove the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement .
  5. Disconnect the generator electrical connector (1).
  6. Reposition the rubber boot (3).
  7. Remove the engine harness terminal lead to generator nut (2).
  8. Remove the engine harness terminal (4) from the generator stud.

  10. Remove the generator bolts.
  11. Remove the generator.

Installation Procedure

    Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  1. Position the generator to the engine block.
  2. Install the generator bolts.
  3. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 22 N·m (16 lb ft).

  4. Install the engine harness terminal (4) to the generator stud.
  5. Install the engine harness terminal lead to generator nut (2).
  6. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 20 N·m (15 lb ft).

  7. Position the rubber boot (3) over the stud.
  8. Connect the generator electrical connector (1).
  9. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  10. Install the radiator inlet hose. Refer to Radiator Inlet Hose Replacement .
  11. Install the air cleaner resonator. Refer to Air Cleaner Outlet Resonator Replacement .
  12. Connect negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .

Removal Procedure

  1. Disconnect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
  2. Remove the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  3. Disconnect the engine harness electrical connector.
  4. Reposition the generator rubber boot (3).
  5. Remove the engine harness terminal nut (1).
  6. Remove the engine harness terminal (2).

  8. Remove the generator lower bolt and stud.

  9. Object Number: 1584686  Size: SH
  10. Remove the generator upper bolt.
  11. Remove the generator.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1584688  Size: SH
  1. Install the generator.
  2. Install the generator lower bolt and stud until snug.
  3. Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in the Preface section.

  4. Install the generator upper bolt.
  5. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts/stud to 50 N·m (37 lb ft).

  6. Install the engine harness terminal (2).
  7. Install the engine harness terminal nut (1).
  8. Tighten
    Tighten the nut to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  9. Position the generator rubber boot (3).
  10. Connect the engine harness electrical connector.
  11. Install the drive belt. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement .
  12. Connect the negative battery cable. Refer to Battery Negative Cable Disconnection and Connection .
