Catalytic Converter Replacement LAP

Removal Procedure

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle.
  2. Remove the wheel drive shaft heat shield. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Heat Shield Replacement.
  3. Remove the heated oxygen sensor (HO2S). Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement.

  4. Object Number: 1650810  Size: SH
  5. Remove the catalytic converter to the resonator pipe nuts.

  6. Object Number: 1650780  Size: SH
  7. Remove the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts.
  8. Remove the catalytic converter.
  9. Discard the exhaust gaskets.
  10. Clean the flange mating surfaces of any remaining gasket material.

Installation Procedure


    Object Number: 1650780  Size: SH
  1. Remove the catalytic converter to exhaust manifold nuts.
  2. Remove the catalytic converter.
  3. Discard the exhaust gaskets.
  4. Clean the flange mating surfaces of any remaining gasket material.

  5. Object Number: 1650810  Size: SH
  6. Install a NEW gasket onto the resonator pipe studs.
  7. Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

  8. Install the catalytic converter to the resonator pipe nuts and tighten to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).
  9. Install the (HO2S). Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement.
  10. Install the wheel drive shaft heat shield. Refer to Wheel Drive Shaft Heat Shield Replacement.
  11. Inspect the exhaust system for leaks.

  2. Remove the HO2S Sensor from the Catalytic Converter. Refer to Heated Oxygen Sensor 2 Replacement.

Turbocharger Exhaust Pipe Nut (Qty: 4)

Caution: Refer to Fastener Caution in the Preface section.

Tighten
50 N·m (37 lb ft)

Catalytic Converter Nut (Qty: 3)

Tighten
46 N·m (34 lb ft)

Procedure

  1. Disconnect any electrical connectors as needed.
  2. Transfer any parts as needed.
