Subject: Various Concerns with Ignition Key (Replace Ignition Lock Cylinder)

Models:2008 Chevrolet Cobalt
2008 Pontiac G5
For vehicles built between August 2007 and November 2007



The following diagnosis might be helpful if the vehicle exhibits the symptom(s) described in this PI.

Condition/Concern:

Some customers may comment on any of the following concerns:

    • They cannot turn the ignition key to the off position.
    • The ignition Key will not go into the ignition cylinder.

(1) Ignition Cylinder

(2) Trigger


Object Number: 2040220  Size: SH

(3) Broken Trigger

Recommendation/Instructions:

This may be caused by the trigger inside the ignition lock cylinder breaking and getting stuck/jammed in the cylinder. If this is the cause of the problem, replace the cylinder.

Important: This issue is not to be confused with the issue described in Bulletin # 06-07-30-004C.

Please follow this diagnostic or repair process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed.
