Start the vehicle.

Does the engine start and the SECURITY indicator turn off after the bulb test?

  1. Disconnect the body control module (BCM) connector C3.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

Is the SECURITY indicator illuminated?

Test for and repair a short to ground in circuit 728 between the BCM connector C3 terminal C12 and the instrument cluster connector terminal B3. Refer to Circuit Testing and Wiring Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and repair a short?

Go to Step 8

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement in Instrument Cluster, Gauges, and Console.

Did you complete the replacement?

Perform a lock cylinder and harness test. Refer to Ignition Key Lock Cylinder Test .

Did the keys, the lock cylinder, and the cylinder harness test OK?

Important: Perform the set up procedure for the body control module.

Replace the BCM. Refer to Body Control Module Replacement in Body Control Module. The security indicator will remain illuminated for approximately 1 minute after the repair is complete if a failure occurred in the previous ignition cycle.
