Start the vehicle.

Does the oil pressure gauge read at an acceptable level?

Does the oil pressure gauge always read low pressure?

--

Go to Engine Oil Pressure Gauge Always Low

  1. Disconnect the oil pressure sensor.
  2. Using a J 33431-C signal generator and instrument cluster tester, connect 1 red lead to the sensor connector terminal A and connect the other red lead to ground.
  3. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.
  4. While observing the oil pressure gauge, set the resistance dial on the tester to 0 ohms, 40 ohms, and 100 ohms.

Does the oil pressure gauge move from low pressure to approximately 30 psi, and then move to high pressure?

Test for and repair a poor connection at the oil pressure sensor. Refer to Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and repair a poor connection?

Go to Step 9

Replace the engine oil pressure sensor. Refer to Engine Oil Pressure Sensor or Switch Replacement .

Did you complete the replacement?

Test for and repair an open or poor connection in circuit 31 between the oil pressure sensor and the instrument cluster. Refer to Circuit Testing or Testing for Intermittent Conditions and Poor Connections and Wiring Repairs or Connector Repairs in Wiring Systems.

Did you find and repair an open or a poor connection?

Replace the instrument cluster. Refer to Instrument Cluster Replacement .
