    Caution: This vehicle is equipped with a Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) System. Failure to follow the correct procedure could cause the following conditions:

       • Air bag deployment
       • Personal injury
       • Unnecessary SIR system repairs
    In order to avoid the above conditions, observe the following guidelines:
       • Refer to SIR Component Views in order to determine if you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring.
       • If you are performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, disable the SIR system. Refer to Disabling the SIR System.

  1. Disable the inflatable restraint steering wheel module. Refer to Disabling the SIR System in SIR.
  2. Remove the steering column jacket. Refer to Steering Column Jacket - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  3. Remove the windshield wiper and washer switch assembly. Refer to Windshield Wiper and Washer Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle .
  4. Remove the following 4 items from the steering column jacket assembly:
  5. 4.1. Remove the lower bearing adapter clip (1).
    4.2. Remove the bearing adapter (2).
    4.3. Remove the bearing assembly (3).
    4.4. Remove the lower bearing adapter (4).

  6. Remove the steering shaft assembly from the steering column.

  7. Object Number: 306318  Size: SH

    Important: Mark the race and upper shaft assembly and the lower shaft assembly before disassembly. Failure to assemble the race and upper shaft assembly and the lower shaft assembly correctly will cause the steering wheel to be turned 180 degrees.

  8. Tilt the race and upper shaft assembly (1) 90 degrees from the lower steering shaft assembly (2) to disengage.
  9. Separate the race and upper shaft assembly (1) from the lower steering shaft assembly (2).
  10. Remove the ignition switch assembly. Refer to Ignition Switch Assembly - Disassemble - Off Vehicle

  11. Object Number: 569763  Size: SH
  12. Remove the 4 hexagon washer head tapping screws (3).
  13. Remove the steering column housing support assembly (2) from the steering column housing trim cover (1).

  14. Object Number: 569762  Size: SH
  15. Remove the steering column trim cover (2) from the steering column jacket assembly (1).
