Clutch Pedal Return Spring Breaks or Scraping Noise When Clutch Pedal Applied (Replace Clutch Pedal Return Spring)

Some customers may comment about a spring breaking and falling to the floor or a scraping noise when the clutch pedal is applied.

Replace the clutch pedal return spring using the procedure and part number listed below.

1. Disengage the lower part of the IP cluster trim plate bezel.
2. Remove the IP knee bolster.
3. Remove the left closeout/insulator panel.
4. Remove the wiring junction block screws and position aside.
5. Remove the clutch anticipate (start) switch. Do not disconnect the electrical connections.
6. Remove the clutch actuator rod clip and rod from the clutch pedal.
7. Disconnect the 3-way electrical connector on the side of the steering column.




Important: Nylon inserts (1, 3) must be present to install the clutch pedal return spring properly. If inserts are not present, try to locate them. They may have fallen to the floor. If unable to locate the inserts, the clutch pedal assembly must be replaced.

8. Install the right leg of the spring (2) into the bracket.
9. Rotate and swing the flat part of the spring into the pocket on the pedal.
10. Using long needle nose pliers, insert the left leg of the spring into the bracket.
11. Connect the 3-way electrical connector on the side of the steering column.
12. Install the clutch actuator rod and clip to the clutch pedal.
13. Install the clutch anticipate (start) switch.
14. Position the wiring junction block and install the screws.
15. Install the left closeout/insulator panel.
16. Install the IP knee bolster.
17. Engage the lower part of the IP cluster trim plate bezel.
