VITON ACCELERATOR PUMPS USAGE SERVICE REPLACEMENT ONLY

Viton accelerator pumps are now available from WDDGM for service when a customer uses a high aromatic fuel, such as gasohol or stores the vehicle for long periods of nonoperation.

Two (2) types of viton accelerator pumps are available and must be used in the correct float bowl assembly.

Float bowl assemblies that have the letters "MW" (machined well) embossed next to the throttle position sensor electrical connector, use the red lip (with garter spring) viton accelerator pump only. Some 1982-1983 carburetors with a machined well (MW) used during production, were assembled with the red viton pump. If the carburetor does not have the red viton pump, a blue dot will be on the rear of the throttle body base near the mounting hole (see Figure 1 below).

If the letters "MW" are not on the float bowl assembly (nonmachined or tapered well) a blue, thin lip accelerator pump should be installed. Use the parts list (attached to this bulletin) to select the correct accelerator pump (see Figure 2 on the reverse side).

Viton service replacement pumps are identified as H.D. (heavy duty) in the parts catalog.

NON-MACHINED WELL MACHINEDWELL (MW) (TAPERED)

Red Lip Blue-Thin Lip (With Garter Spring) (No Garter Spring) (17072978) (See Attached List)

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
