M/T FLUID CHECK LEVEL SERVICE PROCEDURE

VEHICLES AFFECTED: 1985 Fiero

The following procedure should be used when checking the fluid level in 1985 Fiero manual transmissions.

The fluid level should be checked with the engine stopped, on a level surface and the temperature of the transmission comfortable to the touch.

Check the fluid level by removing the speedometer fitting (P.M. Cenerator) and observing the oil level on the fitting. See illustration.

If needed, add enough 5W30 SF engine oil to bring the level above the 'L' mark.

Be sure the fitting is fully seated when reinstalling.

Checking Fluid Level

See the Maintenance Schedule booklet to find out how often the lubricant level should be checked and what type of lubricant should be used.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
