Test Description

The number(s) below refer to the step number(s) on the diagnostic table.

  1. Lack of communication may be due to a partial malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit or due to a total malfunction of the class 2 serial data circuit. The specified procedure will determine the particular condition.

    2.

  2. The symptom list in Symptoms will determine the correct diagnostic procedure to use.

    3.

  3. The presence of DTCs U1161, U1162, U1163, or U1170 indicate that one of the door modules is not communicating on the simple bus interface (SBI).

    4.

  4. The presence of DTCs U1000-U1305 indicate some other module is not communicating on the class 2 serial data circuit. The specified procedure will compile all the available information before tests are performed.

Install a scan tool.

Does the scan tool power up?

Go to Step 2

Go to Scan Tool Does Not Power Up in Data Link Communications

  1. Turn ON the ignition, with the engine OFF.
  2. Attempt to establish communication with the following control modules:
    3. • Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
    • Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
    • Dash Integration Module (DIM)
    • Driver Door Module (DDM)
    • Rear Integration Module (RIM)
    • Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
    • Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM)

Does the scan tool communicate with the control modules listed above?

Go to Step 3

Go to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Class 2 Device in Data Link Communications

Select the display DTCs function on the scan tool for the following control modules:

    • Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC)
    • Powertrain Control Module (PCM)
    • Dash Integration Module (DIM)
    • Driver Door Module (DDM)
    • Rear Integration Module (RIM)
    • Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
    • Inflatable Restraint Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM)

Does the scan tool display any DTCs for the control modules listed above?

Go to Step 4

Go to Symptoms - Instrument Panel, Gages and Console

Does the scan tool display DTC U1161, U1162, U1163, or U1170?

Go to DTC U1161-U1163 or U1170 in Doors

Go to Step 5

Does the scan tool display DTCs U1000-U1305?

Go to Scan Tool Does Not Communicate with Class 2 Device in Data Link Communications

Go to Step 6

Does the scan tool display DTC B1000,B1001,B1004, B1007, B1009, B1010, B1390, or B1422?

Does the scan tool display DTC B1327, B1513, B1514, P0560, or P0620?
