    • J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool
    • J 38197-A Balancer Remover

Removal Procedure

  1. Turn OFF the ignition.

  2. Object Number: 49787  Size: SH
  3. Remove the serpentine belts from the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  4. Caution: To avoid any vehicle damage, serious personal injury or death when major components are removed from the vehicle and the vehicle is supported by a hoist, support the vehicle with jack stands at the opposite end from which the components are being removed and strap the vehicle to the hoist.

  5. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.
  6. Remove the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  7. Remove the splash shield from the right inner fender .
  8. Remove the flywheel inspection cover.
  9. Hold the flywheel with the J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool.

  11. Using 28 mm (1 1/8 in) socket, remove the retaining bolt from the crankshaft harmonic balancer .
  12. Remove the crankshaft harmonic balancer using the J 38197-A Balancer Remover.

  14. Disconnect the electrical connector (1) from the sensor .

  15. Object Number: 97731  Size: SH
  16. Remove the crankshaft position sensor shield. DO NOT use a pry bar.

  18. Remove the 2 attaching bolts from the crankshaft position sensor (3).

  19. Object Number: 12303  Size: SH
  20. Remove the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor from the engine block.

Installation Procedure

  1. Position the CKP sensor to the block.
  2. Notice: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.

  3. Install the bolts that retain the CKP sensor to the block face.
  4. Tighten
    Tighten the bolts to 30 N·m (22 lb ft).

  5. Install the CKP sensor shield.

  6. Object Number: 380524  Size: SH
  7. Connect the electrical connector (1) to the CKP sensor .
  8. Position the harmonic balancer on the crankshaft.
  9. Hold the flywheel with the J 37096 Flywheel Holding Tool.
  10. Tighten
    Tighten the harmonic balancer bolt to 150  N·m +76 degrees (110 lb ft +76 degrees).

  11. Install the splash shield to the right inner fender .
  12. Install the right front wheel. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation in Tires and Wheels.
  13. Tighten
    Tighten the wheel nuts to 140 N·m (104 lb ft).

  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Install the serpentine belts from the crankshaft pulley. Refer to Drive Belt Replacement in Engine Mechanical.
  16. Perform the Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn Procedure. Refer to Crankshaft Position System Variation Learn .
