A/C TOO WARM ON EXTENDED IDLE (INSTALL HOOD SEAL KIT)

SUBJECT: AIR CONDITIONING TOO WARM ON EXTENDED IDLE (INSTALL HOOD SEAL KIT)

MODELS AFFECTED: 1992-93 BONNEVILLE MODELS

CONDITION:

Some 1992-93 Bonnevilles may have a condition of poor air conditioning performance (elevated A/C discharge temperatures) during extended vehicle idle conditions. This decreased system performance is due to the recirculation of air, which has been heated by passing through the condenser and radiator assemblies, over the top of the radiator and back through the condenser assembly. The elevated temperature of the air going through the condenser on extended idles decreases the heat exchange across the condenser and, therefore, decreases the performance of the air conditioning system.

CORRECTION:

The recirculation of heated air through the condenser during extended idle can be reduced with the installation of a hood seal. This seal blocks the air recirculation path between the upper radiator panel and the hood. The service kit part number to be installed on the vehicle is 25616378. This kit includes one (1) hood seal and one (1) template. The template is to be used to locate eleven 6.0 mm holes which need to be drilled into the hood inner panel. Use care when drilling holes to not damage or dent the visible surface of hood. The center hole for the hood seal is already present on the hood inner and utilizes a large 10 mm push pin fastener. After the holes have been drilled, the hood seal should be installed with the lip of the seal pointing rearward. Installation consists of fully inserting the twelve push pins (which are attached to the hood seal) into the hood inner panel. The hood seal will extend further on the right hand side of the vehicle than to the left.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
