BATTERY CHARGE AND TEST LABOR OPERATION

With the issuance of Bulletin 87-WA-2, Pontiac removed labor operation N0100 from the Labor Time Guide. That bulletin also advised dealers to submit for an additional .3 hours in Other Labor Hours (OLH) if it was necessary to charge and test the battery after a warranty repair was performed.

This policy remains basically unchanged. It is, however, recognized that occasionally a vehicle is received from a carrier with a battery that has little or no charge (dark eye) . In these instances, the dealer currently has no method to submit for the time expended in charging the battery because there is no associated repair with which the time can be claimed.

In order to rectify this situation, the N0100 labor operation will be reinstated on a limited basis. When the vehicle is received from the carrier, the battery should be checked for a dark eye. If the battery has a dark eye, it should be noted on the delivery receipt using the Damage Code 02366 on the delivery receipt (see Figure). A transporta- tion claim should be submitted using the following:

Damage Code : 02366 Labor Operation: N0100 Claim Type : "T" Mileage : 0

This is the only claim situation for this labor operation. Usage of this labor operation in any other situation is strictly prohibited.

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
