Identifiers for the 3rd clutch (fiber) plate assemblies for all 1986 through 1991 HYDRA-MATIC 4T60, 4T60-E or THM F-7 transaxles. The 3rd clutch plate assemblies discussed in Service Bulletin #86-7440-109 and #89-7440-111 have many different identifier markings. To avoid confusion, it is recommended to order all overhaul and 3rd clutch plate assembly packages by the model and year of the transaxle.

SERVICE PROCEDURE: Refer to Figure 1 --------------------------------------- When servicing a HYDRA-MATIC 4T60, 4T60-E or THM F-7 transaxle, you may notice the 3rd clutch (fiber) plate assemblies have different markings. Listed below are all of the variations of identifiers for the 3rd clutch (fiber) plate assemblies used in all 1986 to the present model transaxles.

1986, 1987 and 1988 models (single sided plates): - Four dark blue or black stripes - Four yellow stripes

1989 to present models: - No stripes with or without the "V" notch - Four dark blue or black stripes and the "V" notch - Four white stripes and the "V" notch - Four yellow stripes with or without the "V" notch - Four very faded yellow stripes with or without the "V" notch

General Motors bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, not a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform those technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, do not assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See a General Motors dealer servicing your brand of General Motors vehicle for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information.
